A car has been detained in Co Monaghan after a motorist, who failed a drug test, was detected travelling at speeds of close to 140 kilometres per hour
Monaghan Roads Policing Unit clocked the speeding vehicle yesterday evening.
On stopping the vehicle, the driver failed a roadside drug test and tested positive for cannabis.
The car was also being driven without a current NCT, and was therefore taken off the road.
Local gardaí have warned that there are drivers who are "willing to risk their lives and the lives of other road-users".
They've urged motorists to slow down and to never drive under the influence.
