A candle lit vigil was held in Carrickmacross on the 15th of October to remember babies and children from this region who have died.
The event which was run in conjunction with International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, provided families with the opportunity to reflect and also to talk about the impact child loss has had on them.
Cllr Colm Carthy and his wife Denise lost their first baby in 2016; Doireann was stillborn and it caused devastation to the Carthys, their extended families and to their neighbours and friends. He says it's only in the last few years that people have started to talk about child loss and that is a positive development.
Cllr Carthy added that he and his wife received "valuable support" from Feileacain in the aftermath of their devastating loss. "We are unique in Ireland in that we are the best country in the world to deal with bereavement. But there has always been a lack there in dealing with the loss of a child; the loss of a baby.
"For years for those who suffered stillbirths were almost forced by society to move on; to have another baby and everything would be alright. We know now, that was ridiculous."
