The Canadian flag has been raised outside Monaghan Town Courthouse to mark Canada Day in the county.
Canada Day falls on the first of July and Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Cllr. Seán Conlon, had the honour of raising the flag this afternoon.
Canada Day recognises the historical and increasing links that are shared between Canada and Ireland.
County Monaghan entered into a municipal twinning agreement with Prince Edward Island in 1994 - it's a small island of 140,000 inhabitants and is home to the most concentrated population of Monaghan descendants outside of Ireland.
In 1999, a similar twinning agreement was signed between Monaghan County Council and Miramichi City Council in recognition of the strong ancestral links that exist between the two regions.
