Keir Starmer's government announced last week it would now not provide the funding promised to redevelop Casement Park.

Since Keir Starmer's government announced last week it would now not provide the funding promised to redevelop Casement Park in time for the Euros in 2028, calls for the Irish government to invest in St. Tiernach's Park in Clones have re-begun.

Yesterday, Simon Harris reaffirmed the Irish government's pledge of €50 million to rebuild Casement. Today, Cavan-Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher has called on the government to fund a significant upgrade of St Tiernach's.

Although the €50m for Casement remains in place, Senator Gallagher told Northern Sound the government here should now focus on investment in Clones which is the natural home of the Ulster Final: "We should be utilising that facility," Senator Gallagher said, "Perhaps not just for GAA but, for other activities as well so that we can bring more people to the area because Clones has  a lot to offer and indeed, County Monaghan has a lot to offer as well.
