Calls have been issued for extra support towards small and medium enterprises across Co Monaghan, particularly the hospitality sector.
That's according to Cllr Colm Carthy who raised the matter at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council.
Cllr Carthy is calling for a reduction to the VAT rate in a bid to support businesses, particularly pubs and restaurants across local towns and villages.
In response to a previous motion, the Department of Finance confirmed to Monaghan County Council that they are looking at "all options" at the moment when it comes to alleviating the financial burden felt by many. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Carthy reiterated the local authorities stance that something must be done sooner rather than later.
