The Department of Agriculture has contacted Israeli authorities over a video of bulls, allegedly from Ireland, which arrived in Israel in July in a terrible condition.
The Department of Agriculture says it's aware of the footage and has contacted Israeli authorities - adding that it deploys considerable resources to ensure animals are exported from Ireland in compliance with both national and EU rules.
But Gerry Boland, founder of Animals Behind Closed Doors, says that's just not enough. He outlines what the videos tell us: "They're telling us that the idea of high animal welfare in Ireland and the rest of Europe is nonsense," he said, "It's telling us that these that these animals were suffering extraordinarily badly. It's telling us that they're enduring extremely long and arduous journeys. They're telling us they're arriving in horrendous conditions with ringworm around their eyes, excrement completely covering their bodies and these animals are completely exhausted. So, it's telling us that this trade should cease," Gerry Boland concluded.
