Members of the Monaghan Roads Policing Unit recently conducted speed checks on the N2.
A number of motorists were detected travelling at excessive speed in wintry conditions and as a result Fixed Payment Notices were issued.
According to local Gardai, one vehicle in particular was detected and it was soon discovered the driver had no insurance also.
The vehicle was taken off the road and the driver now faces a Court appearance as well as receiving a fine and penalty points for speeding. Gardai in Monaghan are urging people to make it a New Year's resolution to "slow down" in the hope of making roads safer for everyone.
