A Monaghan Councillor has called for immediate action for a pedestrian crossing on a busy stretch of road in Carrickmacross.
The calls follow on from a young boy being knocked down in Carrickmacross last week along the Oriel Road. Cllr Colm Carthy says he has been pushing for a pedestrian crossing on Oriel Road for a number of years.
He says the council executive we're reluctant, initially, as there is an underpass crossing close by but because of the volume and speed of traffic, coupled with the high numbers of children living on both sides, they agreed to include it under the Active Travel scheme a couple years ago. However, the Active Travel scheme is a long list of projects and there have been significant delays in implementing them.
The council executive have now confirmed to the Carrickmacross Councillor that they've added the project to their Low Cost Safety scheme. Cllr Carthy says he hopes a safe crossing will be seen in the coming months, rather than years.
