There are calls locally for the speed limit on a section of the N2 to be increased.
Despite extensive work on the section between Monaghan Town and Emyvale the speed limit has since been dropped from 100 km per hour to 80 km per hour since the roadworks.
A Monaghan bus driver has questioned this decision saying motorists are being caught by the speed vans, which are regularly on the road, due to the reduction.
Pat says the improved road condition means it is easier to travel on it safely at the original speed, and wants the Local Authority to consider changing it back to 100km per hour.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound Pat questioned if it was a ‘money making’ strategy:
Monaghan County Council issued a statement to the newsdesk stating that the road was designed and constructed to a 85 km/h design speed and a recent National Road Speed Limit Review, recommended that this section of the network have a speed limit of 80km/h to reflect this design speed.
