There are calls for a replica of the O'Reilly Castle in Cavan Town to be constructed.
The castle fell into ruin following the destruction of Cavan in the 1600's and none of it remains visible today.
Former Fianna Fail councillor Paddy Conaty says that the site is currently an eyesore and there is an opportunity to encourage greater tourism through such a development.
He is asking the council to explore alternative funding streams perhaps through the O'Reilly family or sponsorship from a private enterprise to get the projecting going.
