There are calls for outdoor drinking by-laws in Cavan to be re-examined.
Two Fianna Fail politicians in the region are calling more clarity to prevent more fall-out from outdoor dining regulations.
The Justice Minister said yesterday that she's confident drinking in temporary outdoor seating areas will be able to continue.
Gardaí say consuming alcohol in these areas, which were set up to facilitate an 'outdoor summer' is not allowed.
The Garda Commissioner insists his members will use their discretion when policing outdoor dining areas.
Fianna Fail Senator Robbie Gallagher says individual discretion doesn't give certainty to the hospitality sector or Gardaí.
Meanwhile, the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council says the local authority must look at their bye-laws to see if they are impeding on an "outdoor summer".
It was said that the council has facilitated permits for on-street service and local Gardai have been very co-operative in their approach to policing the issue.
Clifford Kelly said if the Government can't make special allowances, the council should look at what it can do.
