Cavan County Council is to write to the Taoiseach and the Tainiste to request that public buildings no longer in use throughout the county be opened up.
Members want to accommodate Ukrainians who arrive in Cavan after fleeing their homeland, in them.
The proposal was initiated by Cllr Sean Smith who highlighted how there were former banks and garda barracks across Co Cavan that would be more than suitable.
He added it was predominately women and children who were arriving in Ireland because the men remained behind to fight for their country.
Cllr Smith pointed out what a good idea it was and how it would really help people in "their hour of need".
"We have an abundance of buildings that would provide accommodation for these people in their hour of need," he added.
Meanwhile, Cllr Smith received unanimous support for his efforts.
Members agreed to send a 'resolution' on the matter to Government.
