All political parties are being called on to make a public commitment not to misuse Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their General Election campaigns. It comes as Government is establishing an independent advisory council to provide expert advice to government on AI policy.
Fianna Fáíl's Senator Malcolm Byrne claims the technology is one of the biggest challenges of our democracy. He says it will become more difficult to know what's real and what's not
"One of our challenges is that as technology develops, deep fakes are becoming harder to detect. You can certainly look at water marks and there are other suggestions being made about how you can identify something that has been created by Artificial Intelligence.
"But as technology develops it becomes harder and harder to determine what is real and what is not," he added.
