A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns over the lack of Gardaí vehicles available in the Ballybay area.
Speaking at yesterday's meeting of the Ballybay-Clones MD, Cllr Sean Gilliland proposed a motion to call on the Garda Commissioner and Justice Minister, Helen McEntee to address the situation urgently.
Cllr Gilliland described the current situation as "not good enough" adding that a designated Garda car is needed for Ballybay.
According to reports, Cllr Gilliland said that some Garda vehicles have spent "more than" three months in garages due to a believed "shortage" in certain parts.
As a result, Cllr Gilliland said Gardaí are having to "borrow" vehicles from other stations, and in many instances are forced to use their own cars to accommodate the public services which are required from them.
Cllr Gilliland added that vehicles having to be sourced from other divisions to facilitate Ballybay Gardaí in carrying out their duties "does not" sit well with him, and that a traditional patrol car on the ground is what is needed as many young officers are not trained in driving any other suitable vehicle.
His motion was seconded by Fianna Fail's Seamus Coyle, who also raised his concerns over the opening hours of Ballybay Garda Station, which he described as "atrocious."
He called for a review to be made around the opening hours, with concerns that vital services are "not" being provided to the people of Ballybay.
