Local TD Niamh Smyth has called on the Taoiseach to "expedite" the process of approval for extension works to take place at the Errigal Truagh Special Needs site in Emyvale. The group are pushing to provide an extension at their existing service which will provide "much needed" capacity for children in day respite services. According to Fianna Fail's Niamh Smyth, staff at Errigal Truagh Special Needs have done "incredible work" so far and are now waiting for approval from the HSE.
The Cavan -Monaghan TD described frustrations within the group as "palpable" and has called on Simon Harris to bring the matter to the attention of Bernard O'Regan who is Assistant National Director of Disability Services at the HSE. Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smyth says that a timeline is crucial for the group who are ready to break ground and start building this much needed service.
"It cannot be understated the demand that there is on the children disability network team in Co Monaghan," explained Deputy Smyth. "Yet here we have a group who are willing to do the work, willing to provide the facility, willing to provide the service, and they have a wonderful track record. Errigal Truagh have everything ready to go, they're just waiting on that rubber stamp from the HSE. It really is heart-breaking listening to them and seeing the frustration they feel in moving this forward."
