Ballyhaise Health Centre should be used by doctors to provide a local GP service again.
The HSE are currently using the rooms at the centre for administrative purposes but newly-elected Cavan County Councillor Stiofán Conaty says a doctor should be able to operate from the premises so locals can have their own GP. At present, Ballyhaise patients have to travel to Cavan or another town to see a doctor.
Sinn Féin Councillor Conaty says what is happening with GP services in Ballyhaise is a "microcosm" of what is happening rural services across the country. He also said if the government is serious about maintaining rural life and reviving rural areas, reinstating a GP in a custom-built health centre in north Cavan is a good place to start.
