The issue around the salting of roads across Cavan was very much to the fore of this months meeting of Cavan Belturbet Municipal District.
Cllr Aine Smith brought the issue to the attention of the council that routes to schools across the county were in need of being salted during cold snaps like what was empierced last week. The Fianna Fail Councillor brought the motion to call on the Transport Minister, Eamon Ryan to supply further funding to allow for all routes to schools in the area to be salted when required.
Along with all councillors, Cllr Smith acknowledged the great work that council crews do when salting the roads and the great work that was carried out by the local council crews during storm Isha was also acknowledged. All councillors supported the motion, were they also welcomed the support by some people in the wider community who spread salt themselves in housing estates and very rural lanes.
Cllr Smith says access should be maintained to local schools across the region during sub zero temperatures.
