There have been calls for the extension of opening hours at Monaghan Hospital's minor injuries unit.
And all fees associated with attending the service should be scrapped.
This is according to Sinn Fein's Deputy Matt Carthy whose party has put forward a new Bill that aims to tackle hospital waiting lists across the country.
He added that by extending the opening hours at the local hospital, the pressure would ease on GP services and at A&E departments.
"I would not except a premise that we would give up the ghost in relation to emergency services," Deputy Carthy continued.
"It will be very difficult to restore the services that were removed from Monaghan Hospital.
"And removed for a raft of reasons, it must be said, in terms of resources, staff deployments, and other practical difficulties.
"What we need to do is build upon the services that are there.
"That way we can reach critical capacity and the restoration of emergency services will become a real, live prospect."
