Calls have been made at the recent Monthly council meeting of Monaghan County Council for another Dog warden in the county.
Sinn Fein's Sean Conlon highlighted that there was only one warden at present and that another was needed to enforce the dog control act.
He said the appointment would allow for further enforcement of the dog control act to be carried out.
Cllr Conlon added that further legislation was needed to make sure that laws are being abided by.
In the Monaghan Council chamber the Sinn Fein Councillor called on other members to allow for a letter be sent to Minister for Agriculture Charile McConalogue calling on stronger laws around dog control.
Cllr Conlon says a new report published by the government highlights the need for extra dog wardens across the country.
