A Cavan councillor has called for the county's former army barracks to be used as accommodation for Ukrainian refugees.
Patricia Walsh says the barracks is a "modern building" with suitable kitchen facilities, bedrooms and other communal areas.
At a recent Cavan County Council meeting, Councillor Walsh claimed that "nothing" had been done with the building over the last ten years.
While parts of the complex is currently in use, Councillor Walsh made a proposal to make vacant parts of the building available to refugees entering the county as a result of the conflict.
Councillor Walsh said it made "perfect sense" for the former barracks to be used due to the "huge pressures" on accommodation.
Despite this, Councillor Madeleine Argue said she was already in contact with the ETBs in relation to the building being used to accommodate refugees.
Councillor Argue claimed that following an inspection, the barracks was deemed "not suitable" due to the cost of repair work needed.
However the Fine Gael representative disagreed with this claim, and says the former barracks "looks suitable" and that any work needed could be easily rectified.
