A Green Party Senator has called on the Government to support former Independent senator Ian Marshall in the upcoming by-election.
Former Carrickmacross Councillor Vincent P. Martin made the proposal in light of Michael D'Arcy's recent resignation.
Armagh's Ian Marshall was elected to the Agricultural Panel after a by-election in 2018, but failed to retain it in the 2020 elections.
He's confirmed his intention to run for the vacant seat, with Monaghan Councillor Seamus Coyle saying he'd consider being put on the ballot for the same position.
He and Cavan Councillor Shane P O'Reilly contested the agricultural panel election earlier this year but neither was elected.
Yesterday, Sinn Féin announced their support for the Markethill farmer, with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar telling his party that a Fine Gael candidate should fill the vacancy.
