Cavan County Council has passed a motion calling for a dramatic increase to the cost of a planning objection when lodged from someone outside of the county.
Councillor Winston Bennett's motion would see the €20 fee increased to €2,000.
He says it's "too easy to put in an objection for the sake of it", adding that "it's annoying to see addresses that have nothing to do with the area lodging objections".
Councillors have raised concerns about the impact the objections could have.
The Fine Gael Councillor told Northern Sound that the objections process "isn't good enough at the minute" and called on other parties to push the issue on a national level:
