A local Senator has called for the driver theory test to be offered through secondary schools.
Senator Diarmuid Wilson told the Seanad the measure should be part of wider reforms of road safety education in Ireland.
He said there should be dedicated classes around safety on the roads, which would be compulsory for all students.
Senator Wilson said having proper training in school and offering the theory test would also help reduce waiting times for the tests.
