The number of people allowed to attend funerals under Level 5 restrictions is set to increase from ten to 25.
25 guests can attend weddings, and while Kingscourt undertaker Colm Kieran said this is "great" for couples, he added that brides and grooms would recognise that weddings are not as essential as funerals.
Mr Kieran, of Kieran Brothers Funeral Directors, says the difference between ten and 25 guests at a funeral is minimal and causes great anguish for families when considering numbers.
The Irish Association of Funeral Directors made a submission to the government on the issue last night and the Cabinet agreed to increase the numbers permitted at a meeting this morning.
