Local families applying for school transport services for the first time in the next school year are being reminded to register before today's closing date, April the 28th.
The Bus Éireann family portal is currently open for new applications for the 2023 / 2024 school year.
New applications include pupils who will be attending junior infants in primary school or first year in post-primary school for the first time in 2023 and pupils that move home address or who will be attending a new school during the 2023 / 2024 academic year
Monaghan Senator, Robbie Gallagher says that once the portal closes today, tickets cannot be guaranteed.
He added that fees have also been capped this year meaning families will pay no more than a maximum of €125 for school transport.
"Costs are dramatically reduced for the coming school year. For a primary school student that fee is capped at just €50 per ticket and at €75 for a post primary school student. The maximum amount any family will pay on school transport for the school year is €125 - a potential saving of up to €500.
"I would encourage all families who intend to make new applications in respect of their children to register before the 28th of April to ensure they receive their ticket, where eligible. Families can now apply online through the Bus Éireann family portal at www.buseireann.ie
"Any new applications made after today's closing date will be considered late applications and families will not be guaranteed a seat. A late application may mean that a ticket is not available," said Senator Gallagher.
