A Monaghan councillor has described the service provided by Bus Éireann as “deplorable” after an elderly lady was left stranded in Castleblayney.
Cllr Seamus Coyle revealed that when the bus eventually arrived behind schedule, there was a rush to get onto the bus.
He stated that the elderly lady was slightly slower than others getting to the bus door, and despite having a pre-booked travel ticket which was also paid for, she was “refused entry” onto the bus.
Despite attempts from other members of the public to get off the bus to allow the elderly lady on, according to Cllr Coyle, Bus Éireann personnel would not allow this to happen, which he says left the elderly lady standing at the Bus Shelter in Castleblayney in a state of “distress” as the Bus Éireann bus travelled towards Dublin.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Fianna Fáil representative revealed he has been “inundated” with similar examples of the “outrageous treatment” towards people attempting to access Bus Éireann services across Monaghan.
He believes people feel “let down” and that a “fair” and “better” service is needed urgently.
