A peaceful protest took place yesterday evening at the Glencarn hotel in Castleblayney in relation to the North-South Interconnector.
Up to 100 gathered at the hotel where Eirgrid were hosting a roadshow event at the local hotel.
EirGrid has written to landowners along the route of the North-South Interconnector in Counties Meath, Cavan and Monaghan, offering compensation in return for permission to erect pylons, and run cables over ground. It proposes paying €50,000 for each pylon that it erects. EirGrid's Chief Infrastructure Officer, Michael Mahon addressed the crowds gathered to invite them into the hotel where the roadshow event was taking place.
The proposed line would run through counties Monaghan, Cavan and Meath in Ireland, and Armagh and Tyrone in Northern Ireland. 103km of electricity line are proposed to traverse lands in Meath, Cavan and Monaghan supported by pylons.
These landowners carrying placards reading 'bury the cables and not us' said there message to Eirgrid was simple its underground or nothing. Meanwhile local councillor Sean Gilliland said this is not about compensation its about the landowners health.
