Areas close to motorways are particularly vulnerable to burglaries.

A recent burglary report shows there was an 18% increase in break-ins across Cavan and Monaghan last year. As a result, PhoneWatch is encouraging homeowners to remain vigilant and continue to protect the things and people they cherish most.

In total, the Cavan Monaghan region experienced 232 burglaries during 2022 while the rate of burglaries across the country increased by 10% year on year - the first annual increase since 2017.

Meanwhile, the company's marketing director, Marguerite Cotter, says the number of incidents are a reminder to all homeowners to be vigilant when it comes to their home security. She added that areas close to motorways are particularly vulnerable to burglaries.

"There is a 10% increase nationally and an 18% increase in Cavan and Monaghan. However, we are coming from a lower base line because of the Covid-19 pandemic. So, let's keeps our heads around that.

"Also, we need to remember that one of the reasons for the spike is because our homes are now vacant. That's a big message and so if our homes are vacant we need to ensure they don't appear vacant and that they are protected when there is nobody there," said Ms Cotter.
