She has been nicknamed 'Spartacus' by her mother, because of her strength.

The Northern Sound region is behind Mullagh's Britney Arendse as she competes for an Olympic medal for Cavan and Ireland tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking to Northern Sound today the 24 year old says between training in Dublin and Paris for the Paralympics she feels that she is certainly ready for this 'big one'.

Britney says she has never been on a big stage in front of huge crowds before because when she participated in Toyko 2020 there was no people allowed to watch on due to Covid 19 restrictions. She believes the atmosphere will be the driver for her when she competes in Paris tomorrow.

Nicknamed 'Spartacus' by her mother, because of her strength, Britney is hoping to lift "at least" 136kg this Saturday at 4pm Irish time. With a stage best of 128kg, this would be the heaviest she has ever lifted competitively. The Mullagh native said there is great support from all at home, her family that is there and from team Ireland in Paris. Britney says para lifting has been a life saver for her and something is very grateful for.
