The Breffni/Oriel Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary tonight with a special gathering at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan. The group comprises farmers from across Cavan and Monaghan who breed Holstein Friesian cattle and tonight members will launch a special publication to mark the anniversary.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Padraig Greenan said the group affords farmers the opportunity to come together and chat, share information and socialise at events. He says farming can be isolating for farmers who work alone, so the local group provides a social outlet that everyone can enjoy.
He added that while times and farming practices have changed a lot since the group's inception in 1972, the camaraderie and friendships made - will last forever. "I see if you have an issue on farm, it's great to go to these meetings and chat to other farmers. Farming can be very isolating so at least when you are out meeting other people, it's good for the mind," Mr Greenan said.
