The investigation into the discovery of the body of a man in his 50s in Blacklion has been stepped down. Gardai have confirmed to Northern Sound, that as a result of preliminary post mortem results, foul play is no longer suspected.
A male in his 30s who was being detained at Castlerea Garda Station in connection with the incident has now been released from custody and is no longer suspected of any criminal offence. An Garda Síochána says it will continue to investigate this matter for the preparation of a coroner inquest file only.
Meanwhile, 52-year-old Denis Neary was found unresponsive with serious injuries at his home in the west Cavan village at 9:15pm yesterday. Despite medical intervention he was later pronounced dead by paramedics after suffering serious head injuries.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, highlighted how the man was not a native of the area and had moved there in recent times.
