The border region now has a great opportunity following Brexit and the Windsor Framework.
That's the view of former Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern who says the Cavan/Monaghan region will hopefully thrive in the coming years. The former Fianna Fail leader and Taoiseach was the guest speaker at a public meeting in Cavan last week discussing border issues.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Ahern said the future certainly looks bright for the area adding that things looks good over the next five years in this area. In relation to the immigration issues that have been to the fore in the past week when it comes to immigrants crossing through from the North, Bertie Ahern says he is not surprised by the high numbers coming into the republic.
