Plans for the extension of a quarry in Co Cavan have been rejected by An Bord Pleanála.
The project had been given conditional planning by Cavan County Council in February.
John Nulty had applied for permission to extend an existing quarry in Carrickaboy with plans to extract an additional 1.04 hectares at the 10.25 hectare site.
The plans were approved with conditions in February but they were subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanála by an R. Lee of Rathmines in Dublin.
The appeal raised concerns over the Environmental Impact Assessment submitted, compliance issues, the impact on biodiversity and cultural heritage and other issues.
The applicant made no response to the claims made to An Bord Pleanála.
The Inspector recommended the refusal of permission due to the lack of clarity on the effects the project could have on the surrounding landscape and due to the lack of information submitted by the applicant on measures to prevent environmental pollution.
