A book of condolence will open at Cavan Courthouse from noon on Monday as a mark of respect to the late Cllr Sean Smith who died this morning.
Mr Smith served as a local Fianna Fail councillor with distinction for nearly 44 years in the Belturbet Electoral Area.
He was first elected to Cavan County Council in 1979, holding the position of Cathaoirleach from 1989 to 1990, and again from 2003 to 2004.
