A book launch will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan tomorrow of a former Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps who came to Ireland and joined the IRA.
'The Yank' by John Crawley - who now lives in Clones has been described as a "powerful memoir" of the New Yorker's "gruelling" Marine Corps training, and how, not long after his discharge, he joined the IRA.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show, Mr Crawley explained that although he was born in America, his parents came from counties Roscommon and Kerry.
He explained that from a young age, he grew-up with a republican mind-set and wanted to see a "national democracy" within a republic.
While Mr Crawley fully supports "peace" in the north, he criticised the Northern Ireland protocol, stating that it cannot lead to republican goals:
