Bodycams will enhance policing creating a safer environment for officers and the general public.
That's according to the GRA representative for the Cavan/Monaghan district, James Morrisroe who says these cameras will play a vital role as an aid in assisting custodial sentences being handed down.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show James Morrisroe says the onus will be on the Garda member to turn his or her camera on when they feel it's needed.
Body-worn cameras to be purchased for the gardaí will include facial-recognition software, but the use of the controversial technology will not be permitted in real time under plans discussed by Cabinet yesterday.
Facial recognition technology has been delayed after disagreements between the Green Party and Fine Gael over the amount of scrutiny facial recognition was getting.
There will be now be separate legislation for body cams and facial recognition.
Garda James Morrisroe says the access to this technology will act a safe guard for members of the force and everyone else in society.
