A Castleblayney farmer says he is speaking out on behalf of the "little people" who climate experts criticise for not doing enough to stop global warming.
Peter Field told the Joe Finnegan Show it is "too easy" for politicians, academics and journalists to blame individuals for climate change instead of large corporations and the richest countries in the world. Mr Field said he does not take issue with the climate activists' message "but the target of those messages". The Monaghan farmer said his experience is that individuals are doing their bit like recycling but, global businesses are not being held to account for missing their climate targets. When asked if a particular climate journalist has got it wrong, Peter Field said: "If everything he says is right, then we can't be going softly, softly with the countries that's destroying the planet."
"Everyone's doing their bit as much as possible," Peter Field said, "And yet, they still seem to be the target of these people and the larger countries aren't doing as much as they could. We've been dragged into and there was no softly, softly about it. We were told this is how it's going to be and this is what you have to do."
