The new Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse (SCAN) service for Cavan and Monaghan is an important additional support in the treatment of mental illness." That's according to Deputy Niamh Smyth who attended the launch of the service at the official opening of Blackwater House in Monaghan recently.
Deputy Smyth says the new service is an "excellent example" of holistic approach to mental health service provision. She pointed out that Blackwater House with its professional staff is part of an overall vision for mental health services across Cavan and Monaghan.
She added that the Government's investment in the service demonstrates its "ongoing commitment" to providing high-quality mental health services across the island of Ireland. "I have strongly advocated for a dedicated SCAN nurse for both Cavan and Monaghan since my time in opposition and I'm proud to say that Fianna Fáil are now delivering this much needed service in Government.
"I am delighted with Minister Mary Butler’s news that two Clinical Nurse Specialists have been recruited. They will work with GP’s to provide rapid assessment for people presenting with self-harm or suicidal thoughts to general practice.
"This is an important additional support in the treatment of this illness," Deputy Smyth concluded.
