Blacklion Native, Reverend David Nixon has been appointed President of the Methodist Church in Ireland.
A civic reception to mark the occasion and to honour his contribution to community life across Ireland was held by Cavan County Council yesterday evening.
Reverend Nixon ministered in Northern Ireland, Dublin and engaged in missionary work alongside his wife Rhoda for 13 years in Zambia.
He says he tried three times to become a woodwork teacher before realising he was being called to ministry.
The Reverend added that he is aware now of those who influenced him in a positive way and is grateful that they 'stuck with him'.
"It wonderful the way in which various people are used to shape and mould our lives, teaching us as we go," he continued.
"It's lovely to look back and appreciate all that those people did for me, and the way in which they stuck by me."
