As of 3 o'clock this afternoon, 12,750 homes, businesses and farms remain without electricity in counties Cavan and Monaghan. The figure is down from 17,000 this morning. The worst affected areas for power outages in both counties are Ballyjamesduff with 2,100 properties affected; Errigal; where there is 1,800 customers in the dark and Cavan Town with 1,400.
In Killeshandra, 900 remain without power, 850 in Ballyconnell and in Monaghan, the numbers are 705 for Carrickmacross and 690 in Clones. Meanwhile, parts of Mullagh, Derrycramph, Ballybay and Drumbear also have over 500 customers still without power.
Following a request for information from Northern Sound on behalf of our listeners, a spokesperson for ESB said: "I can only try to understand how difficult this must be for some of your listeners and will try to get you answers to those questions.
"All available ESB Networks resources are currently supporting the power restoration," the spokesperson said, and the utility company is "doing everything we can to restore supply to all impacted customers as soon as possible." The ESB rep said for those in Cavan and Monaghan wondering when their electricity will be back on, the most accurate indications are those published on the www.powercheck.ie website.
"These will continue to be updated as the restoration continues," the spokesperson said before adding "We anticipate that the vast majority of customers who lost power during Storm Éowyn will have supply restored by this Friday night, the 31st of January. But he added the caveat: "For the remaining customers, these will progressively have power restored over the course of?next week.
