An election candidate canvassing the doors around County Cavan has been bitten by dogs three times. Sitting Aontú Cavan County Councillor, Sarah O'Reilly, told Northern Sound the last of the attacks was "really, really bad" and now she fears dogs on the campaign trail.
While the election candidate used to pat every dog she came across, she now finds herself reluctant to get out of her car until she is sure there is no dog at the property she is canvassing. Meanwhile, Gardaí in Monaghan have confirmed to Northern Sound that a person in Threemilehouse was attacked by a number of dogs in an incident on Thursday, May, 9th
And, the IFA also issued a statement reporting a number of dog attacks on livestock in Monaghan in the past week. Cllr O'Reilly asked anyone who has a dog who takes issue with politicians to keep them under control. "I've had problems with dogs," Cllr O'Reilly told Northern Sound, "I've never gotten bitten before by a dog but, I've now been bitten three times. If you have a dog that may be a little bit vexed by people coming to the door or, who has a particular issue with politicians ... I was attacked by a Rottweiler on the first two weeks of the canvass and two weeks ago, I got bitten by a Golden Labrador. It's a tough canvass with the issues and everything but, I'm also finding it tough with the dogs . I really absolutely don't know how the postmen do it."
