The Bishop Of Kilmore, Martin Hayes is calling for more to be done in relation to prison facilities after a recent trip to Mountjoy last month.
Bishop Hayes is the bishop liaison to prison chaplains. While he is conscious of those who are victims of crime and those who have been bereaved by crime, he says as a society, we "cannot" just send people to prison and forget about them.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Bishop Hayes believes that sleeping conditions across Irish prisons is only going to get worse.
With a growing population, Bishop Hayes believes the prison system has not expanded to accommodate such an influx. As a result, he is calling for more to be done in order to rectify the situation.
