The Bishop of Kilmore, the Most Reverend Martin Hayes, has made several diocesan appointments effective from 1st September.
Bishop Hayes has confirmed Fr. John Cusack, curate in Ballinamore-Drumreilly Lower, is to retire and reside in Lavey.
As is parish priest at Knockbride, Fr. Anthony Fegan, who will retire to Bailieborough.
From this September, Fr. Charles O’Gorman, parish priest at Killeshandra-Arva will take up as parish priest of Knockbride.
He is replaced by Fr. Andrew Tully who will move from Lavey, while Reverend Fr. Peter Okpetu MSP, who is currently curate at the Cathedral Presbytery in Cavan, will become parish priest in Lavey.
In addition to being parish priest of Killinkere, the Very Reverend Fr. Darragh Connolly has also been appointed Diocesan Communications Officer.
The list of new appointments issued by Bishop Hayes states Fr Donal Kilduff, parish priest in Denn (Crosskeys) will complete his term as Chancellor, Diocesan Secretary and Chancellor of Kilmore Diocese while parish priest of Mullagh and Cross, Fr. Paul Prior, will take on the role of Diocesan Secretary in the autumn.
The Chaplain of Cavan General Hospital, the Very Reverend Fr. Gabriel Kelly, will become parish priest in Kilmainhamwood-Moybologue and will also take on the role of chancellor of Kilmore Diocese.
In this year of Prayer for Vocations, and in what Bishop Hayes called “the ongoing need for priests” he gave thanks “for the vocation of each person who participates in parish life” and urged people to pray “that the life, integrity and authenticity of the calling of priesthood may continue to be celebrated among us”.
