The Bishop of Clogher, Larry Duffy, is leading tributes this morning to former GAA President Sean McCague who died yesterday. Bishop Duffy described the late Mr McCague as "a legend in his own lifetime here in Monaghan".
He said the former Monaghan manager made an immense contribution to the GAA and embodied all that was great about the Association in terms of people and community.
Bishop Duffy also highlighted how the Monaghan team Sean McCague built in the 1970s and 1980s gave natives many moments of joy and created momentum and pride for the county.
He added that Mr McCague was a man of great Christian faith, a teacher and school principal, and a family man who was totally devoted to his wife Bernie and five daughters.
"There was more to Seán than just football. He was a man of great Christian faith - a faith which he combined with his honesty and many capabilities so as to better the lives of the many people with whom he came in contact through his role as a teacher and school principal or through sport and community life.
"He was also very committed to the life of his local Parish of Tydavnet which he served in various ministries," Bishop Duffy said.
