Bishop Francis Duffy has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Tuam.
The Cavan native succeeds Archbishop Michael Neary who has served in the role for the past 26 years.
Francis Duffy was appointed as Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise in July of 2013 where he has served since.
The official announcement of his new appointment was made this morning at mass in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Tuam by the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland Archbishop Okolo:
Bishop Duffy says he is surprised and humbled to take up the new role in the west of Ireland.
The Templeport native taught at Saint Patrick's College, Cavan, and was appointed principal of Fatima and Felim's Secondary School, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim in 1996.
