Former Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern will visit Carrickmacross on Monday, March 20th. The former Fianna Fail leader is coming to the region for a commemorative event which will mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. The event will take place in the Shirley Arms Hotel, Carrickmacross at 7.30pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
Elsewhere, unsurprisingly the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement is a big talking point at this year's event and last night was the focus of a gala charity dinner. At it US Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer said the DUP should accept the deal, while saying Ireland has a history of unwanted guests.
Unsurprisingly the DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson, who was at the function, wasn't impressed - and told Schumer to read some history books. The Taoiseach and the Northern Ireland Secretary have been more political on the issue, saying time and space should be given to address concerns.
Despite this, there is huge pressure on the DUP to back the deal, with Jeffrey Donaldson due to meet US President Joe Biden tomorrow after the President has had his audience with Leo Varadkar.
