"We will never be able to put the trauma of Covid behind us." That's according to Mary from Monaghan, who lost three family members over the space of less than six months during the height of Covid restrictions.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Mary who lost her husband, mother and sister feels that families like her own have been "forgotten about." The Monaghan woman has also been critical of the Government's handling of the pandemic, particularly with the bans on visiting nursing homes.
In relation to the Government's evaluation of the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mary believes any public enquiry should include the families who lost a loved one and the impact it had. She believes there is "a lot" to be learned from past mistakes and how things were dealt with.
Mary continued; “Now that funerals and wakes are back to normal, I feel like family members who lost a loved one have been forgotten about and it's as if Covid never happened.
“Covid for us was three years of hell and it has made the grieving process even harder. We were so unlucky and it is a time that we will never forget and we will never be the same again. If there’s going to be a public inquiry, families who have been bereaved need to be included. I know it was unprecedented times but I think things could have been dealt with better, so many people are traumatised from that time, especially those who did not have the support of family and friends at funerals due to restrictions."
