A West Cavan publican says the new 'Pubs as Community Hubs' initiative will help those who are fearful of socialising since the outbreak of Covid to transition safely back into the community again.
The Keepers Arms in Bawnboy is one of five pubs across the country that is part of the initial roll out which was launched last week by local Minister Heather Humphreys.
Shiela McKiernan of The Keepers Arms believes the scheme will enhance rural pubs by providing community spaces during quiet trading times.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, the Bawnboy proprietor hopes to also introduce a pop-up cinema within the pub as part of the pilot project which will entice locals to get back out socialising.
