Aaron Brady has branded a New York barman who claims he heard him say he shot a garda as ‘a lying psychopath.’
Mr. Brady, from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh, has been giving evidence in his trial for the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
It is the prosecution’s case that Aaron Brady shot Det Garda Adrian Donohoe during an armed robbery outside Lordship Credit Union on January 25th 2013.
The 28yo repeatedly denied the allegation in his evidence to the jury today.
Earlier in the trial, a barman called Daniel Cahill gave evidence from NYC, claiming he heard Mr. Brady say he shot a garda.
Today, Mr. Brady swore on his son’s life that he never said that. He described Mr. Cahill as being a ‘little lying psychopath.’
He said he didn’t like him, and never would have confided in him.
He also claimed Mr. Cahill attacked him in his bed one night for engaging in a threesome with his friend’s girlfriend, which he denied.
Mr. Brady also admitted lying to gardaí about his whereabouts on the night of the shooting because, he claimed, he was engaged in illegal fuel laundering at the time.
When asked why he moved to the US a few months after the shooting, he said he wanted to get away from all the speculation that he was involved.
