Sinn Fein is set to bring forward a motion in the Dail next week to scrap the upcoming ban on selling turf.
The ban is due to come into effect in September and will leave rural communities with little heating options.
Local Sinn Fein TD, Matt Carthy said the ban is unfair and unworkable.
He added that it would punish rural communities by leaving them with no other heating options.
It is just not sustainable, he contended.
Meanwhile, a Cavan councillor believes there is a need to be careful not to cause fuel poverty for other people, particulary those in rural areas.
John Paul Feeley says Government must organise a way of seeing the end of large scale production in a timely manner.
